A Renaissance Pro

With all the beauty tutorials, it does not amaze us that we found a college professor among the divas.

"While I am not a professional makeup artist , my academic training in Art and Art History lends itself to a deeper curiosity about our desire to adorn and transform ourselves," explains beauty blogger Helen of Lola's Secret Beauty Blog

She is always on the hunt for the best skincare so her own canvas is prepped when she is ready to experiment with the latest cosmetics.  Helen finds cosmetic artistry so fascinating when applied to the human canvas.

"The artifice and skill with which we transform out faces, and our desire to create looks that enhance our features in an attempt to 'perfect' nature is not unlike the underlying philosophy of idealizing Renaissance portraiture. In fact, it was for this very reason that Botticelli's portrait of the lovely Simonetta Vespucci, in her infinite beauty, was chosen as the face of Lola's Secret Beauty Blog," explains Helen.

What do you do full time? I am a college professor with a penchant for high quality skincare and makeup. Lola's Secret Beauty Blog is a result of my obsession with finding the best products on the market!

What is your philosophy about shopping for beauty products? I believe in using high quality products that are as enjoyable to use as they are effective. I prefer easy to use products that enhance your life rather than overly complicate it. I prefer a healthy lifestyle ranging from the types of foods that I eat to the types of products that I use for my complexion.

What are your favorite skin care treatments or products? I am a big proponent of high quality beauty oils, and I love using them from head to toe! I also love using at home peels  and exfoliators to keep my skin in excellent condition.

What are your own skin care concerns and what has helped you? I don't really have many skincare concerns, but I always seek out top quality antioxidant rich anti-aging products.

What do you use when you wake up in the morning on your face? My cleanser du jour, a beauty oil, a light moisturizer, an eye cream, and a sunscreen. Afterward I apply a tinted moisturizer or a foundation, blush, eyeliner, mascara and lipstick.

Have you done any favorite treatments to have done at salon or spa? I love getting professional facials as often as possible.

How do you maintain a natural look? I take really good care of my skin, religiously wear sunscreen, and keep my complexion radiant through the use of excellent quality skincare products.

What is the last thing you do before you go to bed?  I always remove every bit of makeup no matter how exhausted I may be at the time.

What is the first thing you do in the morning? The first thing that I tend to do when I first wake up is have a big cup of coffee!
