Let's talk about Dry Skin

A lot of us have dry skin. For some, it only appears in the colder months when the air is dry and rough, while for others it is a year long issue. With the current frigid climate it is no surprise our skin is looking for some extra moisture.

Some signs that we have a dry skin type are: our skin feels rough, it's tight after cleansing, it's flakey, it has no oily shine, it lacks radiance, it's itchy, or we could even have dry patches on our cheeks.

Some factors that can cause our skin to become dry or dehydrated are cold weather, dry air, harsh chemicals in our products, excessive cleansing, unbalanced skin pH among others.

There are some lifestyle changes we can make during the winter to improve our skin and give it some much needed hydration and moisture.

 #1 Avoid Hot Water!

Hot temperatures remove the sebum from our skin! Take warm showers instead and use lukewarm water when cleansing / rinsing your face.

 #2 Drink Water!

This seems like an all year round issue, however we can’t stress the importance of keeping hydrated during the winter months. We naturally drink more water in the summer, but we need to upkeep water intake now as well! We need to make a habit to have at least 8 glasses of water per day. There are many ways to sneak in water, such as freshly brewed tea, water with lemon juice or even infused fruit waters.

#3 Exfoliate!
It's very important to exfoliate once a week to remove dead skin build-up. We want to remove the dry, flaky skin build-up because it prevents our skin from getting the benefits and absorbing our products. Our Peel Kit is a perfect solution to help prepare the face for absorption of hydrating products! If you are looking for a more gentle exfoliation, our new product- the Peel Plus Pads is a great alternative containing AHA’s and BHAs to exfoliate and promote brightness and clarity.
#4 Moisturize!

We need to moisturize to complete our skin care routine. Avoiding moisturizer makes our skin feel tight and therefore makes it produce more oil and sebum! So we must remember to moisturize after we are done with our skin care routine! Take a look at our new Multi Molecular Face moisturizer as an option which is comprised of Hyaluronic Acid, Squalane and Xylitol known for their plumping and hydrating properties.

Here are some product recommendations to help you combat the season and make sure your skin stays supple and glowy.

Contains ceramides, squalane and sphingolipids, forming a protective barrier to seal in moisture.  Ceramides are vital in creating a barrier, locking the moisture in and preventing permeability while squalane boosts hydration and fights free radicals!
